Scientific Name: Adenium obesum
Common Names: Desert Rose, Mock Azalea, Sabi Star

Originally from the deserts of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, the Desert Rose is a succulent that has made its way into the hearts of houseplant collectors around the world. The Desert Rose grows from a caudex (bulbous root that rises above the soil) and produces dark green foliage around the "trunk". These are also popular as bonsais, due to the pronounced look of the "trunk" and slow-growing nature of the plant.

Desert Rose blooms aren't true roses, but are beautiful nonetheless. As houseplants, they will generally bloom during the summer, but if they are super happy, they may rebloom throughout the year. Blooms generally are 5 petals and are sometimes trumpet-shaped. They bloom in a range of red to pinks and often have a lighter shade or white at the center of the flower.

Un-fun fact: The sap of the desert rose is milky and poisonous to humans and animals

Basic Care: Desert Roses love bright, indirect light. Pot in well draining sandy soil - such as a cactus mix - and let the soil dry out completely in between waterings. During the growing season, you can water a little more frequently and keep the soil lightly moist, but be very careful not to overwater!

***Due to the unique nature of plants, the one we carefully choose for you won't look exactly like the photos. but it will be just as beautiful!
