Coffee Plant
Scientific Name: Coffea arabica
Common Name: Coffee Plant
Yes, it is an actual coffee plant! This coffee plant not only adds an extra pop of color with its shiny dark green leaves, but it also serves as a natural source of energy (no need for another caffeine boost, folks!).
Coffee plants reach full maturity in about 7 years. At that point they are theoretically able to produce seeds (which become coffee beans), although coffee plants kept indoors are not always able to do so. After 2-3 years they are able to produce, small, fragrant white flowers, but even if your coffee plant never blooms or produces seeds, the foliage is striking enough to stand out in any houseplant collection. Glossy elongated green leaves start out as a light bright green and darken as they mature.
Basic Care: Bright indirect light, keep consistently moist but not soaking wet, you can prune the coffee plant to encourage shorter, bushier growth.
