Bird of Paradise
Scientific Name: Strelitzia reginae
Common Names: Bird of Paradise, Crane Flower
The Bird of Paradise is native to South Africa and has been a staple in many indoor plant collections around the world since it was introduced in Britain via the Royal Botanic Gardens in the late 1700's. These tropical beauties can be massive when they are mature and can be over 6 feet tall, with leaves that can easily reach 2 feet in length.
The fast-growing Bird of Paradise is named for its unique flowers that look very similar to the head and beak of a tropical bird when in bloom. Though getting it to bloom may be a challenge, the stunning display it puts on is well worth the effort. It's also perfect for beginner plant parents and is relatively easy to care for.
Basic Care: Bright indirect light, water when soil is dry. Humidity is appreciated but not required.
