Cactus, Monkey Tail
Scientific Name: Cleistocactus colademononis (formerly Hildewintera colademononis)
Common Names: Monkey Tail Cactus
Cacti have become a beloved choice for indoor plants due to their minimal upkeep and vast array of species with unique growth patterns. Plus, their playful and quirky aesthetics are sure to make you smile (and maybe even do a double take)!
The Monkey Tail Cactus is an epiphytic (grows on trees or in rock formations out in nature) cactus that has long stems that trail down that are perfect for hanging baskets. It has fuzzy, hair-like spines that add to the look that earned it the Monkey Tail name.
Basic Care: Desert-dwelling cacti are low-maintenance, and as a result, sometimes they accidentally get completely neglected, so don't forget about your new addition! Use a very well-draining soil, such as a cactus mix. Water when soil is completely dry, which is usually about once a month in the average indoor environment. Lots of bright, indirect light is ideal for most cacti, and they will struggle without enough sunlight.
Watering Test: If your cactus is squeezable - without getting poked - give it a gentle squeeze. If it feels squishy or if it looks wrinkly, it needs a watering.
